One Month

Chipping away at 75 wall balls. Great energy for that workout!

You have survived one month of CrossFit, congratulations. There is very evident progress being made. Yesterday we worked on a heavy triple of a back squat which was your very first workout on the first day of class. Not even knowing the numbers, I could see a dramatic improvement in your form as well as your confidence under the bar. You all increased your back squat significantly from just one month ago, and you should all be very proud of yourselves.

Today after yoga, we took more pictures and re-did our measurements and weight. I'm sure there have been remarkable changes in these areas as well. We will take pictures and measurements every month to track our progress.

Tomorrow and Friday we will use a portion of our class time to discuss nutrition. I am going to ask you all to make some pretty significant changes in your diet, but I can guarantee it will skyrocket the results you are already seeing.

Please post to comments yesterday's back squat weight as well as your previous back squat weight. I would also love to hear any other changes you have become aware of in the last month. Do you have more energy? Are you sleeping better? Has anyone commented about your new physique or attitude?

  1. My original back squat weight was 75, and I'd felt at that point I could go heavier. Then yesterday, I got up to 95, and again felt like I could have gone heavier. I've only lost an inch overall, but I've seen my body changing shape, if not measurements :) I'm looking forward to nutrition. While I know *what* I should be eating, it's somehow harder unless someone is *telling* me what to eat!

  2. Original back squat was 75# in a high-bar back squat, but I think Amber & I ran out of time before working up higher...? I was definitely pushing hard for 75#, just not at my limit. Yesterday I hit 104# & definitely wasn't at my limit, it wasn't as hard as the 75# had been a month before!

My measurements haven't changed at all, really, but I am feeling pretty proud and confident after a month of this work. I'm sleeping less overall (which is good, since I was hovering between 9 + 10 hours/night to feel OK), and bouncing back from nights where I don't get enough better, too. I'm definitely stronger -- I know because people comment on my hugs, which is cracking me up.I'm also more impatient and energetic, in a good way: I am doing less well at sitting still when I could be moving, better at keeping myself moving all day and evening.

A lot of what we do hasn't gotten any easier for me, but I'm able to convince myself I can do it -- running, pullups, rowing, anything "for time," etc. -- and that was my biggest goal, learning to not be too scared to even start.

  3. @Meg We did run out of time before we maxed out last time, same thing happened to me this time, I could have totally done 105, if not 115!
