I had such a great holiday weekend. The sun was out and I was able to get in some great workouts on the beach with my mom and sister. We did sprints, which somehow always feel better on the beach, burpees in the sand, handstand pushups against the beach wall, presses, deadlifts, and squats with rocks and logs. Everywhere I looked there was another 'tool' that we could use for our workout. The first two days it was just myself and my mom who has recently become addicted to CrossFit. In the past I have always invited my family to come for a jog or walk on the beach and was always turned down. This weekend I asked my mom if she wanted to come workout and her reply was, "sure, what time?" Then after seeing the two of us have fun during our morning workout, my sister asked if she could join as well. It just goes to show that if you lead by example eventually people will get off their lazy butts and follow. I am so thankful for the wonderful weekend I had with my family and happy that I can share my passion for fitness with them.
Your sister is such a skinny little bean!!! Awesome pic of you with the log, I did a fun run with squats out the access road to my lake and back (about 1.5 miles with squats every 1/2 mi) Got back to the cottage and had 3 eggs scrambled with veggies, yum!
ReplyDelete(did I just say "fun" run?)
You are absolutely right about leading by example. It's very challenging especially when others are unsupportive or even hurtful with teasing. I have succumbed many times to this by not doing what I know is right and now I've got more work to do as a result. You are an inspiration Jen - NO excuses!
ReplyDeleteI'm digging the article at Scientific American this month called Fit Body, Fit Mind, and thought 'all might want to see. The quote in the last section by Cicero is making me grin like a madwoman. I dropped out of a PhD and here I am doing better than I had been for years -- yay for getting out of my head and into my body!
ReplyDelete“It is exercise alone that supports the spirits, and keeps the mind in vigor.” -Cicero
I'm glad you all got up and moving during your vacations. And you know your attitudes have definitely shifted when you start referring to them as fun runs! I don't even think I am there yet. @ Meg, I think we could all stand to get out of our heads and into our bodies a bit every now and then, good for you!
ReplyDeleteWe were able to get in 2 very hard workouts in Napa before the CF Games. Though exercising while traveling can be challenging, it is very rewarding.
